Well considering we all have breasts and nipples, it’s good to know some interesting facts and get a few reality checks.
Just to get you started
The breast is made up of connective tissue, breast tissue, ductal lobule units, ligaments, and fat. It contains the glands called the mammary gland that makes milk. Nipples are the raised part at the centre of your areola (the dark area at the centre of your breast) and are connected to mammary glands, thus this is where milk flows out in females.
We all know that breasts are the milk town for females. It’s also a great erogenous zone for most. But there is a lot to understand about various aspects, anatomy, and the role of your breasts and nipples.
Your breast will change a lot
For the vulva owners, the size of your boobs will keep changing periodically depending on your age and menstrual cycle. With older age, your breasts will sag and this is totally normal. The idea is to embrace your boobs no matter their size and shape.
LHS isn’t equal to RHS when it comes to breasts
In females, usually, the left side breast is bigger than the one on right. Not just size, your breasts can differ in shape as well as appearance. Several factors like pregnancy, birth control pills, breastfeeding, and at times sex can affect the size of the breast due to the changes in one’s hormones.
Breasts can contribute a lot to pleasure play
No matter what you identify as, many of us love nipple play. Licking, sucking or teasing nipples can be pleasurable for all and heightens arousal. People often find it pleasurable to squeeze (even slap) boobs in bed. It can even lead to orgasms at times. However, it’s important that you convey your limitations to your partner.
If nipple play and stimulating the breast is something that excites you, explore massage-based sex toys, oils or lotions, even things like ice, chocolate or whipped cream can be great for amping up the heat under the sheets.
There is more than one type of nipple
One’s nipple can be normal, puffy, flat or inverted. Puffy means the areola is raised, inverted is partly dimpled or folded, and flat is the smooth areola.
Nipple hair is not unusual
Many of us have hair follicles around our nipples which is completely normal for all bodies. They can be dark and coarse or thin and transparent. Although having nipple hair is natural, if you don’t like it then you can always trim it.
Maintaining health and hygiene is important for all. Make sure to consult your gynaecologist in case of any nipple discharge or prolonged soreness. Also, make sure you keep checking your breast for lumps.
A lot of us carry insecurities related to the shape and size of our breasts. It can often affect one’s self-esteem and confidence. But we must understand that there are several beauty standards established by society that completely disregard the uniqueness of each body and its structure. We must take into consideration several factors like hormones and genes that affect our breasts.
